Norfolk Island Green Parrot Recovery Team
BACKGROUND
The Norfolk Island Green Parrot Recovery Team, formed in June of 2026, plays a critical role in coordinating conservation efforts for the Endangered Norfolk Island Green Parrot (syn. Norfolk Parakeet, Tasman Parakeet), Cyanoramphus cookii.
The Norfolk Island Green Parrot Recovery Team is established in response to an urgent need to clarify the current conservation status of the species, and determine causes of the apparent significant decline in population and lack of observed breeding activity the species is currently experiencing. The purpose of the Recovery Team is to guide, coordinate, and promote the effective recovery of the Norfolk Island Green Parrot, provide strategic, scientific, cultural, and operational advice to support implementation of priority recovery actions, ensure collaboration across partners, and evaluate progress toward species recovery.
Currently, the ‘Norfolk Island Region Threatened Species Recovery Plan’ is the statutory document guiding recovery actions for the species.
